Candace Cameron Bure is opening up about a struggle so many women face—and how God’s love has been the key to her healing journey.

On a recent episode of The Candace Cameron Bure Podcast, the 49-year-old Full House alum got emotional as she shared the deep pain she carried for years regarding her body image. Speaking with guests Allie Schnacky and her daughter, Natasha Bure, Candace admitted, “I’ve whipped my body. I’ve spoken to it so harshly. So mean.”

For Candace, the battle wasn’t just external—it was deeply spiritual. She recounted a powerful dream in which God used Scripture, specifically Numbers 22, to show her a whole new way of seeing herself. In her dream, Candace’s body “spoke back” to her, reminding her of all it had done—walking, carrying her children, nourishing her daily needs—and asking why she treated it with such cruelty.

“It was like this amazing revelation in my life,” Candace shared. “I never saw it that way – it’s this beautiful, amazing thing that God gave me.”

For years, Candace says, she was caught in a cycle of negative self-talk and destructive habits. She reflected that learning to speak with kindness to her body has been a long journey but one that faith has made possible. Taking to social media after the episode, she posted a heartfelt message:

“I was so mean to myself… and looking back, it breaks my heart. Learning to speak with kindness to my body has been a journey, and I know I’m not alone in this. To those who relate – I hope you can feel me giving you the biggest virtual hug right now. And I hope you’ll join me in showing ourselves the grace and love we truly deserve.”

This isn’t the first time Candace has shared her struggles. In 2016, she spoke candidly about her past eating disorder, explaining that the loneliness she experienced as a young newlywed and soon-to-be mom led her into an unhealthy relationship with food. “It became a very destructive relationship,” she said at the time. “Without even knowing, it soon just took over to a point where you feel such a loss of control.”

Though the road wasn’t easy, Candace credits her faith in Christ as the foundation for her recovery. “It was never about the weight for me,” she explained. “It was an emotional issue.”

Today, Candace celebrates her journey toward healing and encourages others to find freedom and hope in God’s truth.

She’s also noticed a shift in the culture, where more people feel free to express their faith openly. “I feel like people are just a little less afraid of being canceled now that they can share their faith openly,” she told Fox News Digital at the recent Movieguide Awards. “And so, I love seeing this in our country, and I’m hopeful. I’m very hopeful.”

Candace’s story is a beautiful reminder that our bodies are a gift from God, meant to be treated with respect, love, and gratitude. Her vulnerability inspires women everywhere to exchange self-criticism for the gentle grace God offers—and to see themselves through His eyes of unconditional love.

“You are fearfully and wonderfully made.” — Psalm 139:14
