Stephen Delbert Simonson, a resident of Exeter and Harding for many years, passed away Wednesday, June 16, 2010, in Genesis Health Care, Riverstreet Manor, Wilkes-Barre. He was born in Ringtown, Pa., March 25, 1917, a son of the late James and Mabel Michael Simonson. He graduated from West Pittston High School. Steve was a World War II Veteran, serving with the C Bees and the U.S. Navy, from which he received his honorable discharge. He was a member of the former Luzerne Avenue Baptist Church, West Pittston. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a Machinist working throughout the Wyoming Valley. Steve was an avid hunter and fisherman. The family of Mr. Simonson would like to thank the staff at Genesis Health Care, Riverstreet Manor, for their loving and compassionate care. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Simonson; daughter Virginia Yurashas; sister Mary Grey; granddaughter Stephanie Schiefer; and great-grandson Mark Dushok. Surviving are son Richard Simonson and his wife, Alberta, West Pittston; brother Claude Simonson, Florida; sister Iva Coyle, Wyoming; grandchildren Richard Simonson Jr., and Debbie Dushok and her husband, Richard; nephew, Andrew Klapel; and great-grandchildren Kevin and Marissa Dushok, and Jimmy Schiefer. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday morning at the Howell-Lussi Funeral Home, 509 Wyoming Ave., West Pittston. The Rev. James Breese, pastor of First Baptist Church, Pittston, will officiate. Interment will be in Mountain View Burial Park, Harding.
