BIRMINGHAM – Navy scored on seven of their eight total possessions and defeated the UAB football team 41-18 on Saturday at Protective Stadium.
 
Navy is now 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the AAC, while UAB falls to 1-3 and 0-1 in league play.
 
The Midshipmen were led by star quarterback Black Horvath who completed 9-of-11 for 225 yards and two touchdowns, while adding 84 rushing yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. Navy outgained UAB 452-395.
 
Jacob Zeno threw for 202 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. The Blazers ran for 193 total yards, led by Lee Beebe Jr. who had 82 yards and a touchdown. Iverson Hooks led the receivers with three catches for 56 yards and a touchdown.
 
Defensively for UAB, both Adrian Maddox and Michael Moore shared a game-high seven tackles.
 
The Midshipmen scored touchdowns on each of their first two possessions, and the second was a 14-play drive which took 7:56 off the clock as Navy went up 14-0 with 9:01 left in the half.
 
A 15-play drive for the Blazers resulted in three points with 1:11 left in the half, but two plays later Navy connected on a 77-yard touchdown pass which gave the Midshipmen a 21-3 lead at the half. Navy scored touchdowns on all three of their first half possessions.
 
The Midshipmen received the second half kickoff and on their third play, Horvath found Eli Heidenreich on a bubble screen which he took 74 yards to the house for a 28-3 lead.
 
After a Navy field goal, UAB's first touchdown came on a 39-yard pass from Zeno to Hooks, making the score 31-10 with five minutes left in the third.
 
The two teams would trade touchdowns in the fourth, and Navy capped the scoring with a late field goal for the final tally of 41-18.
 
The Blazer return to Protective Stadium next Saturday, Oct. 5, to host Tulane. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. on ESPN+.
