Hi all,

I'm pretty much a native to the area (grew up and eventually moved back to Fairfax County) and until about 7 or 8 years ago (as of 2015) I had never even heard of the term "DMV". Granted, I'm a white guy from the 'burbs and I understand the term DMV first came about from the African-American community here (good article from 2010 from the Post After initial obscurity, 'The DMV' nickname for Washington area picks up speed) but I didn't grow up using the term and saying "DMV" always felt like I was going to take a driving test. I know there are also terms like Washington Metropolitan Area (WMA) and National Capital Region (NCR) to describe the region though they aren't usually used colloquially. How do people feel about these terms and other possible alternatives?
