The War Within Season 1 Trinket Roundup - Review & Recommendations After Recent Tuning Posted 2024/09/21 at 6:45 AM by Taeznak
With the recent Season 1 Trinket Tuning, the power of many trinkets have changed since launch. Our guide writer and SimCraft specialist, Taeznak, discusses all the Season 1 trinkets from implementation to relative power. If you're looking for the best trinkets for your specific specialization, be sure check out our Gear Guides with excellent trinket recommendations including rankings and sorting by content type all direct from our Class Writers. During scheduled weekly maintenance on September 17, we will adjust items that have been over- and under-performing in the first few days of The War Within Season 1. Universal Trinkets Dungeon Trinkets Ara-Kara Sacbrood What you need to know Pretty good trinket, that is among the best for many specializations. When this procs it gives you a stack of Egg Sac, which can stack up to 99 times. Each stack lasts 1 minute from when it was triggered. When the Egg Sac expires, it gives you a stack of Spiderling which can also stack up to 99 times, and on your next harmful ability against a target will then Spiderfling your Spiderling to trigger its Spidersting, doing a little damage over time. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Very good Raid Trinkets Ovi'nax's Mercurial Egg What you need to know A moderately passive trinket that gives a significant amount of either primary or your highest secondary stat. What makes this unique is its requirement to either move a lot, or as little as possible to get the buff you prefer. This does make the trinket a bit difficult to use for specializations who move a lot with their rotations like Demon Hunters, who may want the primary stat buff from standing still, or casters who stand still most of the time to cast, who may want more of their highest secondary stat. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Good but subjective Treacherous Transmitter What you need to know When using this trinket, gives one of 3 tasks to complete in order to get its primary stat buff. Failing to complete the task within 15 seconds will give you no buff. The potential tasks are as follows: Task Requirement Realigning Nexus Convergence Divergence Jump 3 times. Errant Manaforge Emission Collect an orb circling the area where you used the transmitter. Cryptic Instructions Stand in a specific location on a transporter device for a few seconds. If you'd like a more detailed look at this trinket, there is an article detailing all its effects and how to handle them here: Treacherous Transmitter Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Exceptional but hard to use Mad Queen's Mandate What you need to know A ramping damage trinket that just about anybody can utilize to good effect. Its damage increases by 1% for every 2% of enemy health lost, leading to it dealing 25% more damage at 50% hp, up to a maximum of a 50% increase if used just moments before your target dies. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Good Crafted Trinkets Darkmoon Deck: Vivacity What you need to Know Provides a stat buff to the player depending on what school of damage or healing was utilized to trigger its effect, which buff you get is covered in the table below: Spell School Corresponding Buff Stats Fire Vivacity of Fire* Haste & Speed Shadow Vivacity of Shadow Haste & Avoidance Nature Vivacity of Nature Critical Strike & Speed Frost Vivacity of Frost Critical Strike & Avoidance Holy Vivacity of Light Mastery & Speed Arcane Vivacity of Arcane Mastery & Speed** Physical Vivacity of Force Versatility & Speed Multi-School Vivacity of the Faire Versatility & Avoidance * They appear to have given this buff the wrong name, at least compared to the rest, but that is the buff fire damage applies. ** Arcane tooltip notes it should give Avoidance, but the buff gives speed as of the time of writing. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Do not Equip Darkmoon Deck: Symbiosis What you need to know A ramping Versatility buff while you remain in combat, takes 50 seconds to ramp up to maximum value and provides a decent amount of versatility. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Good but subjective Darkmoon Deck: Radiance What you need to know A relatively interesting stat buff trinket, that requires you to deal damage to your target to get a buff to your highest secondary stat. The closer you get to the target damage, the bigger the buff it provides, though if you exceed the damage within the 15-second period, it will give you the buff instantly. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Poor Darkmoon Deck: Ascension What you need to know The most powerful of the Darkmoon Deck trinkets, which is very similar to Symbiosis in it slowly ramps up while you remain in combat, though this one takes 80 seconds to reach its maximum value. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Good Algari Alchemist Stone What you need to know Just another run-of-the-mill stat proc trinket that provides a decent amount of your primary stat when it triggers. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Poor Strength Trinkets Dungeon Trinkets Oppressive Orator's Larynx What you need to know Combination of an on use damage trinket, and passive stat buff trinket. Using this at times when you have high stacks of Oppressive Orator's Influence will be vital to really make the most of it, as each stack increases the damage of Oppressive Oration by 25% (additively). Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Good Void Pactstone What you need to know Another relatively run-of-the-mill proc trinket, but this time it deals damage and gives some haste. The one unique part of this trinket is it deals a large amount of damage when you die. Makes this a bit reminiscent of Manic Grieftorch, but with the majority of the benefit belonging to the player using it. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Good Skarmorak Shard What you need to know Another run-of-the-mill on use stat trinket, with a minor twist. This provides a bit less stat than a pure mastery on use trinket at the same item level, such as Mark of Khardros, but instead, it provides a small stacking mastery buff when close to an enemy's corpse. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Good Spare Meat Hook What you need to know A honestly really good on-use damage trinket, which also slows the enemy targeted. Allowing for more enemy control in a group, while dealing respectable damage. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Exceptional Mark of Khardros What you need to know Reasonably potent on use mastery trinket. Nothing special otherwise. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Good Raid Trinkets Skyterror's Corrosive Organ What you need to know An on-use damage trinket that applies a DoT to your target. Every time you attack the enemy with the DoT, it will gain a stack, increasing the damage it does while also dealing some AoE damage to nearby targets. This AoE splash doesn't hit the target that it triggered off of, but the DoT damage increase can be incredibly significant, leading to it being one of the best pure damage trinkets available for many strength specializations. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Exceptional Agility Trinkets Dungeon Trinkets Twin Fang Instruments What you need to know A reasonably strong on-use pure damage trinket that allows using it multiple times for times when you need to deal a lot of AoE damage. It has a 2-second internal cooldown, preventing spam use, so the 3 uses will be spread over around 6 seconds at a minimum, so make sure you pre-plan using this. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Average Bottled Flayedwing Toxin What you need to know A trinket that requires you to use it every hour to get the most out of it. Otherwise, operates as a passive equip trinket that deals some damage on a reasonably high proc rate. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Exceptional Dead-Eye Spyglass What you need to know An interesting stat proc trinket, that requires you to get a proc on a target before you can start getting the crit buff. This does make this trinket very susceptible to RNG on which target it triggers, meaning if you're in m+, or in a raid encounter with adds and you get a proc on a target that is about to die, you just lost a ton of this trinkets value. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Good Skardyn's Grace What you need to know Reasonably potent on use mastery trinket. Nothing special otherwise. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Good Mistcaller Ocarina What you need to know An interesting trinket for agility players, which gives a chance to give a secondary stat buff to allies. This effect can be swapped between any of the 4 secondary stats by purchasing and using Mistcaller's Aria, Mistcaller's Ballad, Mistcaller's March, and Mistcaller's Dirge from Master Clerk Salorn in Ardenweald. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Exceptional Raid Trinkets Void Reaper's Contract What you need to know A passive proc trinket, that deals a pretty significant amount of damage on its own, and even more in execute range. While utilizing the set bonus effect by also equipping Void Reaper's Warp Blade, the execute effects damage can be dealt throughout the entire encounter. This leads to a potentially very potent synergy between these items. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Exceptional Str/Agi Trinkets Dungeon Trinkets Overclocked Gear-a-Rang Launcher What you need to know Combination on use, and equip damage trinket. Requires using a targeting reticule for the use effect, making proper ground targeting a requirement to get the most out of it. When using this, it will hit any targets in its path twice, once when it goes to the target location, and again when it comes back. You can use this to your advantage by moving if things go awry, but it moves incredibly fast. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Average Raid Trinkets Sikran's Endless Arsenal What you need to know A fairly run-of-the-mill arsenal trinket, we seem to get these fairly often. While this does decent damage, its secondary effects provide some decent defensive and utility value. This trinket is almost never the best in terms of pure damage output, but still provides some extras that may make it appealing in some scenarios. The 3 effects it can provide are; Stance - Surekian Flourish, Stance - Surekian Decimation, and Stance - Surekian Barrage. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Good Intellect Trinkets Dungeon Trinkets Mereldar's Toll What you need to know An interesting damage trinket, that provides some versatility to your allies. Though is currently bugged and will often apply its buffs to pets if you're in a group with many pet summons, such as an Unholy Death Knight, or Demonology Warlock, decreasing its value incredibly substantially. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Poor High Speaker's Accretion What you need to know On use damage trinket, that provides a decent amount of intellect in AoE scenarios. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Poor Unbound Changeling What you need to know A trinket that adapts to the food you eat. Depending on the type of food, can give a buff to your Crit, Haste, Mastery, or all 3 at a low chance. In Shadowlands last time this trinket was available there were only singular stat foods that would trigger specific effects, with The War Within having more adaptive foods, or foods with multiple stats, it is unclear how this will work. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Good Satchel of Misbegotten Minions What you need to know Another very run-of-the-mill proc damage trinket with nothing else going for it. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Poor Hadal's Nautilus What you need to know Just another damage proc trinket that deals some decent damage. Does have a downside in that it spawns at the target's location when it procs, so if your tank is moving, or the enemies in general are moving when this triggers, it is very likely to miss. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Poor Gale of Shadows What you need to know Pretty good passive buff trinket that works incredibly well for specializations who have several DoT or HoT spells, that are frequently active. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Subjectively Exceptional Raid Trinkets Aberrant Spellforge What you need to know This trinket can be either incredibly potent, or mediocre, and honestly, there's not much in between for it. The longer an encounter goes on for, the more potent this will be due to its ramping value increase every time it's used. So the longer the encounter goes past the 4-minute mark where you'd hit max stacks, the better it can be. But on average, this trinket just does not provide enough value. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Good Spymaster's Web What you need to know Easily the most sought-after caster trinket at the time of writing, provides a decent amount of passive intellect, with an on-use effect that can be held, and utilized when you need it most. This provides some incredibly significant value when paired with burst specializations cooldowns, potentially providing tens of thousands of Intellect when you're doing the most damage, letting you absolutely decimate your foes for a period of time. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Beyond Exceptional, BiS by FAR Agi/Int Trinkets Dungeon Trinkets Harvester's Edict What you need to know A potent Stat or Damage trinket, depending on how you utilize it. Absorbing the orb can be a bit difficult for ranged specializations, though for melee it will be significantly easier. This is due to the orb spawning behind you, and pathing directly towards your target. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Average Empowering Crystal of Anub'ikkaj What you need to know Pretty run-of-the-mill stat proc trinket. Gives a decent amount of stat for 20 seconds, nothing too special about it though. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Good Tank Trinkets Dungeon Trinkets Ceaseless Swarmgland What you need to know Very typical retaliation trinket for Tank specializations, procs very frequently. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Medicore Refracting Aggression Module What you need to know It's a run-of-the-mill defensive tank trinket, that triggers when you taunt instead of an on-use effect, this ensures it will always proc when you're actively taking damage, but without the ability to time it precisely. Does provide a very substantial absorb shield, and can be useful if you find yourself struggling to stay alive just after taunting. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Poor Throngus's Finger What you need to know Purely passive defensive trinket without any offensive interactions. Dodge does negate damage entirely, but, is RNG if this is actually useful. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Poor Raid Trinkets Foul Behemoth's Chelicera What you need to know An incredibly potent tank trinket in terms of damage output, with some extra healing, and max health added into the mix while you remain in combat. It makes this trinket very interesting for Raid scenarios, as the health increase can stack significantly more than in other content. In Mythic+, the shield may be interesting as it lasts 20 seconds after leaving combat, giving you a buffer while gathering the next pack of enemies. Healing taken increases such as Guardian Spirit and Vampiric Blood can massively increase the extra health given by this effect if timed well. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Good Swarmlord's Authority What you need to know It is a unique tanking trinket, unlike anything we have really seen before. The scarab on proc effect can provide some really good defensive value while dealing okay damage, and it's on-use effect summoning an army of them to deal significant damage, and scaling the number with haste just makes for something very unique. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Subjectively Good Healer & Support Trinkets Dungeon Trinkets Cirral Concoctory What you need to know A trinket that is quite mysterious, similar to Treacherous Transmitter but specifically built for healers and support specializations. When this triggers, will provide one of seven different effects depending on who it targets: Role Buff Effect Any Increase their primary stat by a large amount. Any Increase their highest secondary stat by a large amount. Any Increase their avoidance, leech, and speed by a large amount. Tank Retalliate against attackers, dealing some damage split between nearby enemies. DPS Attacks have a chance to deal some damage to their target. Healer Heals have a chance to heal for an additional small amount. Healer Regenerates some mana every 2 seconds. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Average Viscous Coaglam What you need to know An interesting healing trinket that can store some of your overhealing to be used when it won't be wasted. Does cap out incredibly low though, so in scenarios where your own healing will be carrying the group, such as Mythic+, this effect's value just caps out too low to be useful. Will be interesting for newer healers who overheal a lot, but for those who are optimizing their healing already, will provide relatively little value. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Poor Scrapsinger's Symphony What you need to know Healer trinket with a defensive component to it, that retaliates against enemies attacking the target you used this on, making it reasonably flexible as it's not a purely defensive option. Damage isn't incredible, nor is the shield, but, overall this is a well-balanced offensive and defensive combination trinket. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Very Good Siphoning Phylactery Shard What you need to know A fairly typical on-use healing trinket, with a minor twist in that it takes some of your health to heal someone else for more. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Average Corrupted Egg Shell What you need to know Trinket that gives an absorb shield, and provides some mana. Not very special outside of maybe some use cases where mana is a major limitation. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Poor Raid Trinkets Creeping Coagulum What you need to know A very interesting healing trinket that asks you to sacrifice some healing now, for some extra healing and an ally damage proc later. This does provide some interesting potential in scenarios where you just don't need much healing for a period of time, allowing you to instead use that time to ramp up the Coagulum, and let your friends deal some extra damage to boot. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Very Good Gruesome Syringe What you need to know A very interesting healer trinket, that will almost always provide consistent value. Even if it doesn't heal an ally, it will still give you a significant Intellect buff which can increase either your healing, or damage depending on what you're doing. Strengths Weaknesses Verdict: Good About the Author Taeznak is a long time Unholy player, theorycrafter and moderator on the Death Knight Discord server, Acherus. Not only it's hilarious healing with my balls, but with how much healing and overhealing you do, they are great. Comment by Peacemoon on 2024-09-21T07:15:31-05:00Thank you so much for this, a great article and lots of useful info for everyone in one space. Will be sharing with my guild! Comment by Greengrovegranny on 2024-09-21T08:47:51-05:00"What you need to know missed a couple Comment by TheProcess on 2024-09-21T09:45:00-05:00Interesting that "poor" trinkets end up being run by some of the best players in the highest keys. Good to remember the subjectivity here. Comment by LoGyMW on 2024-09-21T09:51:31-05:00And why is no one looking into delve trinkets? Some are pretty good and not all of us are doing mythic and only go as far as heroic raids and some of those are pretty good alternatives. I feel like these so called ''experts'' are still in their old mindset where anything outside of m+ or raid is trash. Delves are a pretty good alternative to those who don't want to do m+ for instance and you can get gear with pretty good stats depending on your class. Plus, at 626 max ilvl this gear is still perfectly viable even for entry level mythic raiding. But as per usual, no one talks about alternate sources of gear at all that are outside raids or m+ Comment by Jaidalyn on 2024-09-21T10:40:32-05:00Surprised changling and sacblood don't reach exceptional rating yet ocarina does. Good info pile up on the trinkets still though. Comment by Jaidalyn on 2024-09-21T10:45:21-05:00And why is no one looking into delve trinkets? I think Shadow-Binding Ritual Knife is extremely good. 3k main stat + 1.2k mastery but a low proc chance to lose 3.4k of a secondary stat for 10s.Comment by ShurqElalle on 2024-09-21T11:02:04-05:00 Was excited to read this until I realized it does not include delve trinkets.. Comment by Angrymama on 2024-09-21T11:45:38-05:00I use Refracting Aggression Module and I love it. It's an insanely powerful trinket for M+. Guess delve trinkets don't exist. Nice to know. Guess delve trinkets don't exist. Nice to know. Most people I can see won't step into a raid I can see but a mythic dungeon? Really someone can easily step into a mythic dungeon for 30mins 45 and leave. Come on dudeComment by BooJoh on 2024-09-21T14:04:47-05:00 Guess delve trinkets don't exist. Nice to know. Come on dude As someone who struggles with anxiety I can tell you that I will very rarely hop into LFR but I almost never queue for even Normal or Heroic dungeons. In fact Follower Dungeons have been a great relief for me. The stakes feel much higher when you're 1/5th of the group than when you're 1/20th. People who play solo all have their own reasons for what content they will or won't do, but you shouldn't assume that anyone can do a piece of content just because it's easy for you and doesn't take a long time.Comment by PriestessAur on 2024-09-21T15:15:45-05:00 No mention of Imperfect Ascendancy Serum? So many of these trinkets are annoying to use. Comment by enheru on 2024-09-21T17:00:23-05:00Why skip over the delve trinkets? There are some very good ones in there. Comment by Corpselance on 2024-09-21T17:33:12-05:00Zero mention of the delve trinkets, or am I blind? Comment by ProdromusHarv on 2024-09-21T21:17:29-05:00As many others has mentioned, not including Delve trinkets is a massive oversight. First, this skips over Delve trinkets, some of which are incredibly useful like the Silken Chain Weaver which is actually a fantastic trinket and one of the very few decent defensive trinkets available for tanks. It ignores Shadow-Binding Ritual Knife as well, which does pretty well for classes that are mastery heavy like Assassination Rogue (who I currently use it on). Are delves trinkets forgotten or are they all so bad its not even worth making a guide/rating? 1
