Best Flaws to Pick and Reject

The Outer Worlds 2 has several Flaws that you can optionally choose throughout your playthrough depending on your actions, honing your experience in specific ways. But which Flaws are the best overall, and which should you avoid? This guide acts as a comprehensive breakdown of what we've found to be the best and worst Flaws in The Outer Worlds 2.

NOTE: Every Flaw in the game has some degree of upside depending on your build and/or playstyle, so don't take this list as gospel. These are simply the Flaws we found have the most versatility across builds, or lowest/most easily negatable downsides.

Best Flaws to PickConsumerismBenefit Downside How to Unlock
-15% Vendor Prices   -10% Sell Value at Vendors   Purchase the Premium Edition of The Outer Worlds 2.

We'll get this one out of the way first, because it's actually locked behind the Premium Edition of the game. If you happen to have that version of the game, you'll have this Flaw pop up near the beginning of the game.

While you can reject it, you literally paid for the privelege of access to it, and though you'll make less money from the items to sell to vendors, the discount on pricey items (which is most of them) is more than worth the tradeoff.

OverpreparedBenefit Downside How to Unlock
+50% Magazine Size   -40% Damage for 8s after a weapon's magazine hits empty   Reload your guns often while they still have ammo left

Overprepared is a relatively easy Flaw to trigger, and it's one that is deceptively powerful regardless of where you are in your playthrough. The +50% magazine size can turn powerful weapons with limited capacity into far more viable options, and all you need to do is keep an eye on your remaining ammo in the clip during firefights.

The downside is obviously very punishing if you do get caught out by it, but even in that scenario the damage debuff is only temporary and you can get into cover, use throwables, or rely on companion abilities in the meantime.

Dangerously CuriousBenefit Downside How to Unlock
+100% Experience from Hacking   +1 Bypass Shunts Required to Hack   Hack terminals as often as possible

Considering the amount of hacking you'll be doing throughout the game, the +100% experience gained from Hacking can really snowball quite fast.

The Outer Worlds 2 20251030120338.png

The tradeoff of having to use an additional Bypass Shunt per Hack is intimidating, but they are abundant throughout the world as ground loot, and can be purchased frequently from most vendors.

DependentBenefit Downside How to Unlock
+25% Damage to enemies recently damaged by a companion   -10% Damage   Have companions in combat, and use abilities often

Arguably a more niche selection depending on your companion preferences, but if you are flexible in who you bring, Dependent can be incredibly potent. While the -10% damage is undoubtedly a major tradeoff, you'll have to go out of your way to be in a scenario where you have no companions.

The Outer Worlds 2 20251020133133.png

Though all companions have good offensive capabilities, if you have companions like Tristan or Aza who have excellent AoE damage capabilities, you can send them in to use their companion abilities as often as possible. This will then (likely) afflict this damage bonus to most enemies in a given encounter, making the downside of this Flaw far less punishing.

Best Flaws to AvoidTreacherousBenefit Downside How to Unlock
+50% Enemy Awareness Depletion Rate, +100% Sneak Attack Damage   -25% Base Health   Perform Sneak Attacks as often as possible

Though this can technically be worthwhile if you're going hardcore into a stealth build/playthrough, the nature of the game makes that pretty hard to effectively and consistently execute in the majority of environments and scenarios.

The Outer Worlds 2 20251024133722.png

The removal of 25% of your Base Health can technically be alleviated through various means, but it's a major thorn in your side until you are able to acquire counterbalances in the form of powerful Primers or unique armor. Add to this the fact that the sneak attack damage boost often still won't be enough to one-hit enemies, thus negating the impact of the bonuses provided by this Flaw.

Reckless LeadershipBenefit Downside How to Unlock
Whenever a companion is downed, the other gets a full heal and instant refill of their ability   You are no longer able to revive your companions in combat   Have companions downed in combat often + resist reviving them as often as possible

This one is pretty cut and dry. Not being able to revive companions in combat will always put you at a severe disadvantage considering you can't control their actions or positioning moment to moment.

The Outer Worlds 2 20251021153824.png

Though the surviving companion gets healed and can immediately use their ability, you'd almost always just prefer to be able to revive the downed companion and have more damage potential (and mobile people to draw aggro).

BibliomaniaBenefit Downside How to Unlock
+20% Base Health   -30% Base Health for 2m after talking to anyone   Read as many books/datapads/text logs as possible

While the +20% Base Health boost from this Flaw is undoubtedly pretty appealing, there's a major issue; you'll be talking to people a hell of a lot in this game. Not only will you need to do so to begin or progress quest objectives, purchase from vendors, or engage with your companions, but you can even be automatically dragged into some conversations without initiating.

The Outer Worlds 2 20251104162622.png

With that in mind, you'll almost always be at a -30% Base Health disadvantage outside of general exploration in the open world, where NPCs are much more sparse.

GluttonyBenefit Downside How to Unlock
+15% Healing from Food and Drink   -10% Combat Movement Speed   Eat food and drink as often as possible

The inherent boost to healing specifically from eating food and drink is a strangely narrow (if thematically consistent) benefit to a universally punishing downside. With the amount of food and drink items scattered throughout the world, you'll be able to heal well regardless - even excluding your Inhaler from the equation.

The Outer Worlds 2 20251021144638.png

But the -10% movement speed in combat makes even the smallest of encounters far more difficult to navigate (literally), and come out the other side of unscathed; where you would then ironically need to heal.

FlawedBenefit Downside How to Unlock
Gain an extra Perk Point every 5 levels. This bonus is retroactive   Flaws must be accepted   Accept 2 to 3 Flaws (prior to this one)

Flawed is one of the only Flaws in the game that actively discourages you from picking it in the description of the Flaw itself (at least for your first playthrough).

The Outer Worlds 2 20251018150731.png

The additional Perk point is arguably one of the more useful upsides that any Flaw in the game can provide, but having to accept any and all Flaws that present themselves can really mess up your playthrough and completely dismantle your chosen playstyle in certain cases. As such, unless you're a player that truly values chaos, avoid this Flaw like the plague.

Easily DistractedBenefit Downside How to Unlock
+1 Skill Points Gained per Level   When leveling, you can only add skill points into your lowest non-zero Skill or any Skill you have no points in already   Invest Skill Points in multiple different Skills

While the prospect of having an additional Skill Point per level is very enticing, the issue is that your choices when it comes to investing those points is extremely limiting thanks to this Flaw.

The Outer Worlds 2 20251013161240.png

Not only does this (as the Flaw description explains) make you a jack of all trades that won't have the ability to clear most skill checks in the game, but also The Outer Worlds 2 is a game that is specifically tailored to you choosing a lane and sticking to it; spreading the field is a bad idea, so avoid this Flaw at all costs.
