After an open challenge by one of the most popular social media food influencers, a Lafayette food truck owner passed the test — and then some. Social media star Rashad Mooreman, better known as Mr. ChimeTime, has spent the past few weeks in the 337, trying some of the city’s most unique eats. After eating his weight in boudin, Mr. ChimeTime was sent a message by Jabarik Sebille of JB's Cruisin' Cuisine, a local food truck that serves up Cajun Creole soul food on the north side of Lafayette, at 1601 Moss St. Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement Known for his blunt, no-nonsense approach, Mr. ChimeTime calls out overpriced, underwhelming meals and isn’t afraid to stir controversy with unapologetically honest reviews. Sabille said Mr. ChimeTime was visiting local restaurants in the area, and while he hadn’t tried any food trucks yet, the owner of JB's Cruisin Cuisine sent an open challenge. “I reached out to him like, 'Hey man, you know I'll take the challenge,’” Sabille said. “You're going around reviewing these people’s food, but I want you to come and review mine as well.” Sabille said he didn’t hear back from him, but Mr. ChimeTime ended up showing up, and the two got to talking, and he enjoyed the conversation with him. “He interacted with a couple of our customers... he is a really good guy,” Sabille said. “It’s just crazy how he came to my food truck.” Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement In a video that was posted on Monday, July 21, Mr. ChimeTime reviewed two of Sabille’s plate lunches. The first was a plate of smothered ribs over rice with white beans and a piece of cornbread. “That first bite was sensational,” Mr. ChimeTime said in his review. “When you bite into these ribs, I am telling you right now, they are just going to fall off the bone. The flavor profile of the ribs is truly like no other. Even the bone is good.” With more than 700,000 views and more, Sabille’s porkchops, red beans, and rice were just as tasty for Mr. ChimeTime. “The red beans and rice are saying, ‘We know what we are doing down here. You heard me,'” Mr. ChimeTime said after eating a few bites of the beans. “I am not going to lie to you, this (pointing to the red beans and rice) is pressure. These are a problem. You can smell the spice and seasoning. The more you chew on these, the better they get.” Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement Sabille said after seeing the video, he was thrilled that Mr. ChimeTime enjoyed his food. "That was crazy for me that he enjoyed it,” Sabille said. “I was a little bit nervous. There was a lot of nervousness, but I mean, when I saw the video and saw his reaction, it was pretty cool.” JB's Cruisin Cuisine’s is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday to Friday, and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. And if you want to try some of Sabille’s food, you’ll have your chance. This Thursday, Mr. Chimetime will pay for the first 100 customers, Sabille said, from 3 p.m. until they are sold out. And whether you’re a regular or a first-time customer like Mr. ChimeTime, Sabille said he wants you to give his food a try and an honest review. This is what I've strived for in my business. We won't know how to improve if no one speaks up. So give us a try.” This article originally appeared on Lafayette Daily Advertiser: (责任编辑:) |
